Lowell’s Points of Light Cultural Celebration Committee is planning a special Lowell Cultural Lantern Walk to complement our traditional wish lantern launch. Our goal is to provide materials and/or a stipend to community groups that would each produce a large, intricately-decorated lantern inspired by their culture or history. These lanterns would be secured on pedestals on the festival grounds the night of the festival. The lanterns should be weather-proof as they will be installed outdoors.

The Committee is seeking someone familiar with using fabric and frames to create shaped lanterns to assist developing the program. This includes:

  • Helping develop the vision and specifications for the installation
  • Identifying appropriate materials that could be used by community groups
  • Sourcing materials
  • Estimating costs
  • Writing instructions that could be provided to community groups

We are not currently seeking an artist or fabricator to make lanterns—just to help us develop the program. A stipend would be provided commensurate with the time involved and level of experience of the artist or fabricator.

If interested, please contact Chris at chris@diylowell.org with qualifications or questions. This call will be open until filled, so submit inquires as soon as possible!
